Bispec is a medication designed to alleviate the symptoms associated with overactive bladder (OAB). This condition occurs when an individual cannot control their bladder contractions, often resulting in leakage. The active component in Bispec is Solifenacin succinate.
Solifenacin functions by diminishing muscle spasms in the bladder and urinary tract (urethra). Symptoms of an overactive bladder can include frequent urination (urinary frequency), an urgent need to use the bathroom immediately upon feeling the urge to go (urgency), and episodes of leakage or wetting (urinary incontinence). These symptoms arise due to frequent muscle contractions that the patient cannot control, predominantly triggered by nerve issues in the bladder, which may result from conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, or spinal cord injuries. Bladder contractions may occur even if the bladder is not full, leading patients to attempt urination without success. The symptoms can resemble those of cystitis. While overactive bladder can affect individuals of any age, it is more prevalent in older adults, particularly those over 50.
Take Bispec either with or without food, but consider taking it with food if you experience any stomach discomfort. Swallow the medication whole; do not chew, break, or crush it. It’s advisable to take Bispec with a full glass of water and to drink plenty of non-caffeinated fluids unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Potential side effects may include dry mouth, dry eyes, blurred vision, constipation, nausea, mild gastrointestinal pain or discomfort, dizziness, fatigue, fever, sore throat, and body aches. If you encounter any side effects, it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately for your safety.
